Marcus was born on December 29, 2002, and entered
the ring for the first time during the 2003 WHWTCA Roving Specialty weekend in July (see photograph below), where he secured
first place in the WHWTCSET 6 - 9 month puppy Sweepstakes class under renowned Breeder/Judge Jaimi Glodek. Marcus made quite
an impression with that first show performance and, as a result, moved to Ohio with his new owner, Judith A. White (Jubilhill Westies).
With Judy at the lead, Marcus won Best in Sweepstakes at the 2003 WHWTC of Southeastern Michigan show from the 6
- 9 month puppy class.
In
late 2004, following concentration in large Specialty shows (with first and reserve placement wins), Marcus decided to
make his mark in the Texas show ring, which he quickly did by earning several points toward his championship title as well
as four Best of Breed wins. Marcus finished the year with an award of Group One in the Terrier Bred-by Exhibitor Group on
December 5, 2004 (see photo below), then completed his championship in early 2005 by going Best Opposite Sex with a five-point
major (defeating several specials dogs) at the Fort Worth KC show, and gaining his second major with a Best of Breed win at
the Baytown KC show.
Shown on
a limited basis in the special's ring with handler Christopher Keith, Marcus quickly became a Terrier Group winner and ended
2005 as a Top Twenty Westie All Systems (per Canine Chronicle Online stats, for events through December
31, 2005). Marcus retained his top status throughout 2006 and, as a result of his accomplishments in the show
ring, received back-to-back invitations to the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship invitational shows scheduled
for January 2006 and December 2006 (see photos below from the December 2006 show). Marcus finished 2006 as #14 Westie
All Systems, and had his final run in the ring at the Westminster Kennel Club show on February 12, 2007. Thanks
to Marcus' winning show record, we were honored with the prestigious 2006 Annual Award for Best of Breed Owner-Bred Dog
from the West Highland White Terrier Club of America on October 5, 2007.
